The Ivey Awards: And the Winners Are . . .

The 5th annual Ivey Awards for excellence in local theater took place
Monday night at the State Theatre and, as usual, the winners
represented a diverse cross-section of actors, directors, technicians,
and theater companies in the Twin Cities. Hosted by Claudia Wilkens and Richard Ooms, the
2009 Ivey award-winners are:
The Baldwin sisters—Jennifer and Christina—for their outstanding singing and acting in Nautilus Music Theater’s Sister Stories.
The Youth Performance Company for its civil-rights musical, Little Rock, 1957.
Greta Oglesby, for her outstanding performance as Caroline in Tony Kushner’s Caroline, Or Change, at The Guthrie Theater
Greg Banks, for his outstanding direction in The Children’s Theatre Company’s production, Romeo and Juliet.
Chris Griffith, for outstanding prop design in the Minnesota Jewish Theatre Company’s Herschel and the Hanukkah Goblins.
The History Theatre’s production Tyrone and Ralph, written by Jeffrey Hatcher, for overall excellence.
Sean Healy, for outstanding sound design in The Jungle Theater’s Shipwrecked.
Luverne Seifert, for his outstanding performance in the Workhaus Theater Collective’s 800 Words, The Transmigration of Philip K. Dick.
Theatre Latte Da’s Old Wicked Songs, for overall excellence, presented at the Guthrie’s Dowling Studio and directed by Peter Rothstein.
Sonja Parks, for her outstanding performance in the one-woman show No Child, at the Pillsbury House Theatre.
The Emerging Artist Award went to Emily Gunyou Halaas.
The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Dudley Riggs, founder of the Brave New Workshop. By video, Minnesota senator Al Franken, who began his career at the BNW, thanked Riggs by saying, “Dudley, without you I wouldn’t be where I am today. I’d be in my fourth term.”
Mpls./St.Paul extends its congratulations to all the winners, and everyone who was under consideration for an award.
