Summer Concerts: Jayhawks Reunion, Lots to Crow About

By Tad Simons

The summer concert season is beginning to take shape. Lineups for both Cities 97’s Basilica Block Party (July 10-12) and the Current/Walker Art Center’s Rock the Garden (June 20) have been announced.

Among the highlights is a reunion of the Twin Cities' beloved Jayhawks on the first day of the Basilica Block Party. The rest of the Basilica lineup looks like this:

Friday, July 10: The Black Crowes, The Jayhawks, Mat Kearney,

Saturday, July 11: Counting Crows, The Hold Steady, Matt Nathanson

Sunday, July 12: Rince na Chroi Irish Dancers, The Basilica Cathedral Choir, Richard Lopez

Headlining Rock the Garden in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden are indie-rock darlings, the Decemberists. Also on the bill are the Southwest band Calexico and Yeasayer, a Brooklyn-based group that calls its music “Middle-Eastern-Psych-Pop-Snap-Gospel.”

Rock the Garden happens Saturday, June 20, 4-11 p.m.
