Rent @ The Orpheum

By Erin Gulden

It has been more than a decade since the original Rent craze swept the country, and though Broadway moved on after the show closed on June 1, 2008, many fans clearly haven’t. The Orpheum was packed for the Broadway tour’s opening night, starring original cast members (and stars of the big screen version) Adam Pascal (Roger, right) and the absolutely amazing Anthony Rapp (Mark, left).

If it’s been a while since you’ve seen the show, the mix of the original leads with a few fresh faces (notably Nicollete Hart as Maureen and Justin Johnston as Angel) may be worth a second viewing. For first-timers (myself included), don’t be put off by the show’s cross-dressing and drug use, or by the unruly crowd that whoops, hollers, and sings along to the most popular songs. It’s all part of the fun. La Vie Bohéme.

Rent runs through Sunday.
