Prince launches new fan site. Fans mystified. Clues provided.

By Tad Simons

Can’t wait until Sunday to stand in line at Target for the new Prince CD? Last night, at 7:07 p.m., His Purpleness launched a fan site, lotusflow3r.com, where the faithful can download his new albums and gorge on photos, music videos, and all sorts of other material—all for the princely sum of $77. (The 3-CD set will sell for $11.99, starting Mar. 29)

Warning: at lotusflow3r.com, even if you want to cough up the money, it’s not immediately apparent how to do it. It’s a game, you see.

Hint: on the bottom right of the moonscape there is a ticket. Pick it up. The ticket reads “Mar.07____, Saturday, 7:00 p.m._____, CA” You must fill in the blanks correctly to earn the privilege of giving Prince your money. The correct answers are “1986” and “Los Angeles”—clues that you can pick up by clicking on the television set in the lower left-hand corner.

Warning #2: Users are having all sorts of problems actually downloading the albums from the site. You can commiserate with them at prince.org

Hint #2: Clicking on the glowing orb in the middle of the screen does absolutely nothing.

Here’s a good review (better than Jon Bream’s, anyway) of Prince's new CD collection by the L.A. Times’ Margaret Wappler.

Oh, and remember: Prince's three-night gig with Jay Leno begins tonight.
