Model Citizen: Meghan McAndrews of Mighty Swell Vintage

By Stephanie Audette

It’s no secret that Meghan McAndrews loves to thrift, and she’s good at it. Few people have an eye for this stuff. Aside from my sister, McAndrews is one of the few people I know who have truly mastered the craft of combing the racks at Goodwill or the Salvation Army. You don’t have to take my word for it. I just so happened to snap these pictures of some Mad Men-party-worthy dresses at her store:

It was at Mighty Swell’s latest sale that I found the South Minneapolis beauty in one of her signature finds. While the affordability of secondhand duds is definitely a perk, she prefers the way vintage dresses are cut.

McAndrews’ look is Urban Outfitters meets Anthropologie (and a little retro flair thrown in) without the price tag. I don’t know how she does it. Take the floral print dress she’s wearing in the photo below:

I love the three-quarter length sleeves of this brightly hued wrap dress. Her neutral-toned boots actually ARE from Urban Outfitters, but I could just as easily see the dress on a mannequin in the store’s display window. Throw some dark tights, a knit scarf, and a leather jacket into the mix and this seemingly summer dress becomes a fall staple.
