Mighty Swell’s Fall Vintage Sale

By Stephanie Audette

Mighty Swell saw a steady stream of loyal customers for its two-day sale this past weekend. Never one to turn down a sale, I couldn’t resist stopping by to chat with the store owners and scope out the selection. Here’s what I found this time around:

This denim and lace number. I couldn’t help but think how great it would look layered under this season’s leather jacket. For an even bolder look, pair with skinny jeans in a darker hue. A retro take on a current trend, this top fits right into this fall’s focus on texture.

Not only a gold mine for unique pieces of clothing, Mighty Swell boasts an impressive selection of vintage housewares. One of their newest vendors, Collectible Kat, specializes in mid-century home décor.

From pretty tin trays to decorative owls, the store has odds and ends every bit as charming as its vintage clothing—and just as affordable too! Perfect for putting those finishing touches on your Uptown apartment.

Not unlike the surrounding neighborhood houses, the store itself feels a bit like shopping in your best friend’s closet—if your best friend was co-owner Meghan McAndrews.

“We never imagined when we started Mighty Swell to have a storefront, but after doing a couple pop-ups, we realized how much easier it would be to have a central space to store our racks, clothes, etc.,” McAndrews says. “The storefront space basically fell into our laps, and it’s been wonderful.”

Another key to the shop’s success can be found online. “Social media has been huge for us since day one,” McAndrews says. She explains how customers come in asking for specific items they saw pictured in the preview on Mighty Swell’s Facebook page. “Twitter allows us to answer questions right away and share what’s going on in-store immediately.” McAndrews adds that all these platforms are a great way to publicly thank partners, vendors, and customers.

Two years later, McAndrews’ passion for what she does is obvious to anyone who has seen her in her element.

“My favorite part of the store is seeing people find the perfect piece (or pieces) for them. Sometimes people are so excited about their finds they wear them out of the store.” This is certainly what I would have done with these adorable velvet smoking slippers had I not talked myself out of buying them at the last minute! Oh well, there’s always next time right? Stay tuned for the next sale and I will see you there!

I fell in love with these fleur-de-lis flats, and now I'm kicking myself for not buying them!
