This goes out to the curly haired girls, the girls who fear their flat irons once the days get warmer, the girls who wouldn’t even think of wearing their hair down on a hot day in July.
I, who would qualify as part of each of these groups, was sick of letting our humid Minnesota summers get the best of my hair. In attempts to find lasting results, I went past the drug store cosmetic aisle and consulted with a friend of mine who studied at Aveda. She gave me her professional opinion when it came to the unruliness of my hair. My skepticism and the price tags had steered me away from this popular brand before, but maybe making an investment was exactly what was needed. Turns out, I was right.
The first instruction I was given was to ditch the countless bottles of cheap shampoo and conditioner. I traded up for higher quality shampoos, made specifically to tame frizz and smooth everything over. What I found: the Smooth Infusion line is a frizzy-girl’s lifesaver.
I started by shampooing and conditioning as usual, with the Smooth Infusion product. Then, after towel drying, I applied the Smooth Infusion Style-Prep Smoother when my hair was still damp. After applying the Style-Prep Smoother, I used the Smooth Infusion Glossing Straightener. I tried this process a few times, and the Glossing Straightener works better if you apply heat with a blow dryer when drying. After going through these steps, my hair felt significantly softer than before. Also, with the heat and humidity of my non-air-conditioned apartment, I usually saw frizz instantly after I got my hair dry, but there were no such signs after my new routine.
My favorite part? Not having to use even more product to protect against my flat iron while styling. Usually, I would use a heat protector spray on my hair before applying even more heat after drying, but with the Smooth Infusion line, all of the products help to prevent heat damage when you style your hair. Finally, I found a hair care line to tame my blond, coarse, frizzy locks (none of which make styling easy!).
If you want the best results, use the entire line from wash to style. I’m sure they are great on their own, but the line works best in unison.
Now that my frizz is gone, how do I get my hair to hold it’s look? Fortunately, Aveda also has an answer for that one. Use Control Force hairspray when styling for a night out. With my thick and crazy hair, I always have problems finding a hairspray that will hold my look without weighing down or making me look photo shopped. Control Force gives that extra strong hold, but you are able to brush through it. “Brush through it?” you ask, yes you heard me correctly: this is the only brush-able hair spray I have found that still holds the shape you want, but it looks like you’ve used no product!
Aveda takes the cake where curly hair is concerned, so get rid of the ponytail holders, hair gel, and fear of those frizzy flyaways on your head. You can wear your hair down again!
