Last night stylish men and women lined Water Street in Excelsior for the 7th annual Ladies Night Out Fashion Show, titled Tangerine Dream. I was lucky enough to sit by the always-glamourous Alexis Walsko, and of course, my dashing plus one. Our lovely emcee for the show was Mpls.St.Paul Magazine editor Melinda Nelson, who lives in Excelsior herself and is always an advocate for the local, independent stores in the area.
DJ Josh McClure and a hip-hop number from local artist Herbert Johnson kicked off the runway show. Fashions from several of the boutiques in the area walked the catwalk, including My Little One, Mint Dor, Cherie Consignment, Impact of Excelsior, Ooh La La, and Martin’s among others. Even the boutiques that don’t carry apparel got in on the fun—My European Treasures, 2B Inspired, and Gray Gardens all showed off some of their wares, and the team from Gary’s First Class Car Care danced down the catwalk carrying car parts.
There were also a few surprise guests! Henry the dog accompanied the ladies of Jackie’s boutique and Robyne Robinson made a guest appearance in support of her line of jewelry, Rox Mpls, which is carried at Omorphia. One of the biggest surprises was a man in a speedo who strutted his stuff with those modeling fashions from brand new store, Val’s. The fashions from this vintage and vintage-inspired store were by far my favorite of the evening!
As any good fashion show does, the show ended with a wedding dress. Rather, several lovely bridesmaid dresses from Bella Bridesmaid, followed by the finishing number from Herbert Johnson and another talented hip-hop dancer, Lulu.
If you missed LNO this time, be sure to make a trip out to Excelsior sometime this summer to check out the new boutiques, grab some ice cream at Lick’s, and maybe a drink or two at Maynard’s. Ladies Night Out, every Thursday until October 6. For special theme nights, visit excelsiorgirlsnightout.com.
