As I took a little post-lunch stroll along bustling Nicollet Mall, a colorful accessory caught my eye. Hamline University student Megan was lounging on Panera’s patio, looking ever so effortlessly chic with a scarf tied in her hair.
Scarves seem to be popping up everywhere—no, not the big knit scarves we Minnesotans pile on in the winter. I’m talking about that delicate, ladylike Hermès-esque scarf that proves to be irresistibly versatile. Unfortunately, not all of us have the budget for a trip to Paris and the famed French house of silk. (It would be nice though, wouldn’t it?)
Fortunately, Megan shows us we don’t have to travel to Paris and spend a fortune to get this look. The St. Cloud native explained that every piece of her outfit was thrifted, with the exception of her shoulder bag (from Fossil). Her favorite thrift stores? Treasure Chest, Goodwill, and Savers.
With locations in St. Paul and Uptown, My Sister’s Closet is another second-hand gem. I never seem to leave that store without at least one new find, and my last trip was no exception. I walked away with my own orange scarf (for $3, I might add!) that I plan to tie in my hair à la Joan in Mad Men.
Thrifting not your thing? Try this colorful number from H&M. It’s a steal at $9.95!
