As someone who covers the homes beat for a living, I suppose I should
have a healthier do-it-yourself spirit. Although I come from a family
of successful DIYers and can point to beautiful DIY projects I've seen
in the field, I personally know to call in the professionals for nearly
everything.
Over the weekend
The New York Times ran a story on how "saving money never cost so much" that opens with the DIY disaster of suburban Minneapolis resident Carol Taddei. I don't want to give too much away, but let's just say her story involves garden tools, a toilet, and a car.
Read it here. Not to dissuade the DIYer in anyone, and with complete respect for Taddei (I can honestly relate), the story makes me feel better about my policy of only taking on what's comfortably within my abilities. And, for the foreseeable future, that would be changing light fixtures and painting. Ever so carefully!
