I, unfortunately, missed the presentation of Monique Lhuillier's Fall 2009 collection at the Plaza back in February (a late flight), so I will no doubt be heading to her 50th & France salon to see first-hand what the designer is feeling for fall. Although only twelve of her thirty plus looks were shown at the Plaza that night, her dark, lush, and romantic take on fall 2009 feels right for the times.
Inspired by The Ballet Russes and staying true to her love of textures and layers, Monique Lhuillier's Fall 2009 collection is an intriguing interpretation of modern party dressing—horsehair-stiffened skirts, full dresses, elaborate embroideries, black silk jersey. And although the gowns were no doubt gorgeous, it was the uncharacteristic edgy styling—snagged body stockings and tangles of necklaces—that gave the traditional investment pieces an edge and depth that feels right.
The trunk show runs April 1 through April 4. Cal l612-929-0747 for an appointment. 3928 W. 50th St., Edina, moniquelhuillier.com
