Registry: Sorting Out the Basics

By Sarah Schweich

I stopped by Macy’s to make an appointment to register. They take appointments during regular store hours which means Saturday and Sunday—very happy to hear that!

I asked if we should walk through beforehand so we have a better sense of what we want (given the previous conversations Ion and I have had, I thought maybe we should be “prepared”) and learned we could, but that we didn’t have to get all our registering done in one fell swoop. This made me both happy and nervous. I tend to lose steam, so if I don’t get it all done, I’m afraid I will not finish—but more on that later. I also learned that two hours is a good amount of time to start with, and we can delete items via phone or online. Great to know. They also offer a percentage back in gift cards—something I actually think a lot of retailers do (especially in today’s same-store sales statistics), but what a treat!

Comments

Have you considered using an online registry website? We set up with our registry at myregistry.com, and I've found that it helps with combating the urge to get it all done at once since you can easily keep track of everything you like in one place (which if you are a visual person like me, is key!). Also, using a website like this allows you to pick things from more than one store but still have one registry. I still like to visit the stores to see things in person, but if you are getting tired/overwhelmed, you could easily do all of the shopping from your couch! Good luck with your registry!
