Why: To hear the stories of girls, women and men empowered by the YWCA of Minneapolis and fundraise to support the organization.

A sold out crowd of 1,300 women (plus a few supportive men) descended on the Convention Center to celebrate the success stories of girls, women, and men empowered by the the YWCA of Minneapolis and help perpetuate the organization’s progress. Jon Charles Salon and Maha! Boutique styled an orange carpet runway show, and a silent auction put the latest styles in purses and handbags up for grabs.

The YWCA chose the occasion to announce their $20 million Power to Soar Campaign, of which $11 million has been raised, and announced the lead campaign gift from Mary Lee Dayton. Women helping women—check out photos from the event below.

Johnny Michaels of La Belle Vie, Nick Kosevich of Bittercube and Pip Hanson of Marvel Bar shared samples of their signature cocktails and entertained the crowd of 250 with a lively discussion about their craft.

Vendors from around the metro area submitted their work for consideration by our panel of national bridal experts. Our judges picked their winners, and then we asked our brides and wedding enthusiasts to vote on the finalists.

Why: To honor the time, talent, and expertise of ASID Members who make Minnesota one of the top chapters in the nation

Every year, more than 200 interior designers from the Minnesota chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers, showroom professionals, architects, builders, artisans, and other design insiders gather to celebrate the year’s most outstanding interior design projects.

David Heide of David Heide Design Studio took top honors with Best in Show and five 1st place awards. The winning projects will be on display at International Market Square for one year, so be sure to stop by and marvel at the incredible breadth and depth of talent in our local design community. Why: More than 450 holiday-enthusiasts got a head start on their holiday shopping and planning at the Woman’s Club of Minneapolis on Nov. 3. More than 30 tenants from the Galleria participated in the event, which featured delicious food and fantastic holiday gift and décor ideas.

Four holiday-themed presentations, ranging from holiday blooms to fashions, were emceed by Mpls.St.Paul Magazine senior editor, Melinda Nelson. Dazzling décor provided by Indulge & Bloom and Christmas carolers helped ring in the holiday season in style.

Walker After Hours: Alter Ego

Why: To drink, dance, and get a first look at the Cindy Sherman photography exhibit.

The scene: The Cargill Lounge was the center of the action where guests danced to R&B, funk, and rock ‘n’ roll spun by Lady Hot Soul Party. While some took in the Cindy Sherman exhibit in the Target & Friedman Galleries, others noshed on appetizers from D’Amico in the Bazinet Garden Lobby.

Dress code: Most people dressed as their casual, trendy selves. But some took the Alter Ego theme literally by donning lavish costumes. Props to the gal who spent the entire night dressed as a cat.

Kudos: This party had not one but two photo booths. The Traveling Photo Booth gave guests a standard three-shot filmstrip to take home. But the Dress Up photo booth took it to another level. Guests got their hair and makeup done by Aveda stylists, dressed in costumes from the Guthrie Theater and Children’s Theatre Company, and struck a pose.

Why: To support local, independent, and female-owned businesses, and to raise funds for Project Success—a nonprofit youth development organization in Minneapolis.

Spotted: Local designers, avid shoppers, and friends of Project Success.

The Scene: Well-dressed ladies checked out vintage-inspired jewelry by Realia, apparel from Local Motion, and handbags from J.W. Hulme. (Fun fact: HBO star Lena Dunham carried one of the J.W. Hulme bags in the pilot episode of Girls.)

Eats: Partygoers sipped wine, beer, and cocktails. There were plenty of sweets on hand, from pistachio macaroons to chocolate ganache-filled cupcakes by Cocoa & Fig.
