Who: Opera fans, fashion designers, and young professionals who love a fancy party.
What: Tempo’s Cio-Cio Sassy
Where: Seven Sushi Ultralounge and Skybar
When: March 30, 2012
Why: To support Minnesota Opera’s Tempo program and celebrate the opening of Madame Butterfly.
Spotted:
Custom Madame Butterfly-inspired fashions by local designers, including Caroline Hayden, Tony Eliason, Lauren Mayhew, Russell Bourrienne, [damn]aged by Hitomi K, Anna Lee, Tim & Thom, Kerry Riley, Jared Zachary, Samantha R. Crossland, Sina Yi, and Emma Berg. My favorite? Tim & Thom’s black and red jacket inspired by the character Pinkerton.
Kudos:
Props to Tempo for putting on a party with a reasonable ticket price ($25), which included a signature cocktail. Nothing pleases this partygoer like a free drink.
Memorable Moment:
A live performance by Minnesota Opera resident artists Victoria Vargas, Gabriel Preisser, and AJ Glueckert. I’m pretty sure their voices carried throughout the building, sans microphones.
Lesson Learned:
Opera isn’t just for your parents. Tempo’s 20- to 30-something members are a cool bunch.
