Fashion Ball 2012

fashionball-13_

Who: Dance lovers, fashion fans, and the Twin Cities arts crowd.
What: Fashion Ball
Where: The Ritz Theater
When: April 14, 2012
Why: To support Ballet of the Dolls and show off some fierce style.

Spotted: Local fashion forces such as Grethen House’s Mary Brindley, Joynoelle’s Joy Teiken, and of course Grant Whittaker, who styled the entire show. I loved the glitzy costumes for the “Rumpelstiltskin Goes for the Gold” number.

Kudos: Compliments to whoever created the custom wigs for the show. A cap made of Twix wrappers? Long curls with ribbons attached? Floor-grazing braids? Genius.

Crowd Favorite: There were several fairytale-themed dances, but “Hansel and Gretel Having Adolescent Desires” got the biggest response. Envision sassy, spirited dancing to “Dirrty” by Christina Aguilera and “How Many Licks” by Lil’ Kim. This was not the bedtime story I remember from childhood.

Memorable Moment: One of the models busted out of her strapless top during the final walk. Literally. Props to that gal for acting like nothing happened and finishing the show.
