Who: Singers, theater artists, big-time jazz heads, and philanthropists attached to some of the Twin Cities’ biggest corporations
What: Penumbra Theatre’s 15th Annual Jazz Jam
Where: The Dakota Jazz Club and Restaurant
When: Sunday, June 7
Why: To hear the buttery vocals of Dianne Reeves, as well as to
bid on silent auction items and otherwise raise funds for Penumbra
Theatre
If ticket sales are the gauge, then Penumbra Theatre’s recent Jazz
Jam was the most successful installment in the event’s 15-year history.
The theater managed to book world-renowned jazz singer Dianne Reeves–and,
needless to say, she was a big draw! The theater’s administrators
haven’t yet crunched the numbers to find what the event raised, but the
sold-out benefit attracted an impressive crowd of movers and shakers,
from well-known Twin Cities artists to philanthropists associated with
the area’s biggest corporations. We surveyed the room at the Dakota
Jazz Club and Restaurant early in the evening, before dinner was served
and before the feature presentation got under way.
