F3: Homecoming

It’s Fresh Forkin’ Friday and that means Homecoming in this house. I don’t really have to go home for homecoming, I kinda already did that when I moved back and installed my brood in the very same schools I attended as a youth. Never thought I’d do that, but then I did. So tonight’s football game is going to be a rouser, against the old rival Mound, and we plan to pack the stadium in community support. The 4th grader came upstairs today in my old letter jacket and asked if he could wear it to the game, which is funny to me. To think of myself wearing that thing proudly with the ’89 on the sleeve, to think of that girl is funny because she never, ever, would have come up with the current version of herself. But then, as now, she did always wonder about one very important thing: where are we going to get pizza after the game?

COMING SOON

Did you hear that Sushi Fix is putting down real roots in Wayzata? That sassy truck has become a lunchtime institution for many of us, so I am happy to hear they are opening in the old Blacks Ford spot, especially since we WeSubbers are losing Origami and Yumi’s has become too gong happy (Dear Yumi, I love you, please stop exuberantly gonging for every birthday and anniversary and sake bomb. I can’t take it anymore).

Kerfuffle this week over a place that may or may not be Travail-related and may or may not be a party bar opening in the North Loop.

Sausage Party! Boarfest 2012 kicks off Sunday at Butcher & The Boar under the newly tented and heated bier garden. It’s a bourbon, beers, brats, and bands story they’re telling. Admission is free and the shenanigans run from noon to 10pm.

Maybe you should visit a different kind of orchard this Saturday and sip some freshly minted hard ciders.

Whatever you do, don’t miss this chance. North Coast Nosh is throwing the big, fun, dishy eat-fest of local producers and artisans this time around at the American Swedish Institute. So it’s like the best field trip you could have ever planned as a hungry kid. Tickets for the October 13 soiree are $25, so click it, or show up with your Zombie Pub Crawl wristband (but do go easy on the fake blood) and get $5 off at the door.

Fish Bites is one of the best reasons to head to the Zoo. Support sustainable fisheries while noshing on lovely bites from seriously cheffy places such as Sea Change, Masu, and Heidi’s. This year each dish is also paired with a sustainable wine, so you got that going for you.

It’s Cupcake’s 8th anniversary next week and the week-long celebration, which kicks off on Monday the 8th, includes $8 dinner plates, $8 bottles of wine, secret prizes given away every 8 minutes, and any four cupcakes for $8 (this last bit also good at the new MOA store).
