I’ve flipped the switch. I’m totally on board with fall eating. I know it was around 90 the other day, but that didn’t stop me from thinking about fire pit chili and braising a pork shoulder. I have moved on to hearty mushroom pasta and gnocchi, I bought my first pumpkin beer at the store the other day, and I’ve begun trolling the fire station websites for intel on local booyas. The coming weeks are packed with farm events, orchard doings, harvest fun, charity dinners, and sausage n’ kraut spectacular spectaculars. This Fresh Forkin’ Friday I reaffirm that our tribe lives this last fiery-leaved, azure-skyed outdoor dance best.
Hey! DMG just told me that Summit is opening its taproom on September 28th. I know you think that the grandaddy of local craft beer may be a bit mainstream, but I’m telling you this taproom is going to deliver all sorts of insidery treats. Sips from the cask ales? Tastes of specialty beers from their pilot brewing system? All this and more in the Ratskeller room and patio area.
Bar Louie opened in Uptown yesterday. The national chain has put some cash into the development of the space in the new Mozaic building. You still have the weather this weekend to enjoy the huge outdoor bar and, uh, wading pool. I’m just a snidge worried about what might happen when the after-Cowboy-bar crowd discovers this water feature.
Also open in Uptown as of today, The Uptown Theater! With booze! Can’t wait to get my Rocky Horror on in the new balcony seating. I hope there’s a cocktail called Dammit Janet.
And World Market is back! Bring on the cheddar and ale pretzels and fish balls!
OH, and Little T’s is open again after a 20 month remodel. It will be serving the same menu, but now has a shiny new full bar, which means yay for the margaritas but it won’t be able to stay open til 4am anymore.
The Prairie Ale House space in Eden Prairie will live once again! Scott Foster and his Nova Restaurant Group (which includes Hazellewood, Joey Nova’s Pizza, Pescara in Rochester, a little bit of Pier 500 in Hudson) is working on reviving the space with a fresh draught house feel, they are keeping the beer/tavern focus but softening it a bit and rounding it out to be a bit more family friendly (smart).
Heidi’s is celebrating its fifth birthday and you get all the gifts! Now through the end of October, you can tuck into a special 7 course tasting menu for only $60. Some of the courses feature old favorites from the past (that veggie bolognese, mmmmm) and some feature a few of the current hot dishes. There’s also a new fall menu so get in there and get eating.
Did you hear that CRAVE is giving away 500 FREE lunches next Monday? It’s kicking off a 45-Minute Power Lunch menu and picking up the check for a bunch of lucky random winners. You still have time to register through today.
Stillwater’s Gasthaus Bavarian Hunter is throwing the hammerschlager down this weekend with the first Oktoberfest! This and next weekend enjoy tons of beer in boots, live music, copious amounts of wurst, and plenty of lederhosen.
On the west side of the metro, they’re taking to Kruisetoberfest on Al & Alma’s Lake Minnetonka fun boat. I can’t get behind the name, but I can get behind the gig and the beer from Excelsior Brewing. A $48 ticket buys you the cruise, the brews, the views, and the BBQz.
And hey, it’s Wine, Chocolate, and Romance weekend at the Renaissance Fest this weekend. There are free wine tastings, grape stomps, and a chocolate pie eating contest. So put down your turkey leg and man up.
Don’t forget to get your Taste! tickets before they sell out! Not only are you getting 300 wines, but we’ve added over 100 craft beers! It’s going to be a hot time in TCF stadium with cooking demos, wine chatting with Dara, and Weekly Dish broadcast live. Sass, nothing but sass.
