That’s right, Andrew Zimmern is launching a food truck, AZ Canteen, and he’s launching it next week at the Minnesota State Fair!
OK, your first thought: It’s going to be all about worm tacos and tarantula pasties. I know, mine too, but no. Let’s face it, Zimmern is a guy who has eaten all around the world and had more street food than you can shake a skewer at . . . you gotta trust he’s going to put up something tasty. But you can’t expect him to mess around with the same ol’ sammies, can you? Where’s the fun in that?
Zimmern’s plan is “to expand the protein choices of Americans with the overarching goal of restoring health and wellness to our food system one plate at a time.” Do you know what that means? Yup, goat burger. Zimmern has partnered with famed NY butcher Pat LaFrieda to create a goat burger blend and a goat sausage. You’ll also be able to order crispy pork belly, veal tongue sliders, and ice cream sandwiches made with Izzy’s ice cream.
Zimmern and his bright yellow truck will roll into the Great Minnesota Get Together on August 25, and you can count on it that he’ll be manning the grills and serving up the edibles. After that, the truck will make appearances at some local events throughout the year, but don’t be surprised if you hear of more trucks in more cities and countries across the globe. And you can say you ate it first.
