Over the weekend we learned that local chef Scott Pampuch is leaving the Minnesota Valley Country Club. It seems like you might have been expecting this kind of news, what with all that’s been going on with this guy lately.
Over the last year, Pampuch shocked many people when he left his iconic South Minneapolis locavore restaurant Corner Table (eventually selling it to new owners) for a job at the country club. It was his mission to take the locavore system that he had created in his small restaurant and see if it could work on a larger scale. The team he put in place is ready to continue the commitment to using local, organic, and sustainable ingredients, with chef de cuisine Jeffery Lakatos now leading the kitchen. In our upcoming July issue Dara talks about Scott and his impact on the local foodscape. The review went to press before we heard the news, so we’re offering it to you today, ahead of print.
While he did film a three-part series called In Search of Food for the Ovation network this past year, Pampuch isn’t heading into more media (at least, not yet). He’s taken a position with a hotel management company as Director of Food and Beverage with the mission that he will be creating locavore systems for their hotels on a national level. His first gig is in Milwaukee where he will begin work on July 1st. (We can’t name names at the moment).
Sad to see such a talent leave our eating space, but happy to know that there’s a dyed-in-the-wool Minnesota locavore moving onto the national scene.
