Yesterday was the sneaky Day One for the new Angel Food Bakery & Coffee Bar by the kids at Hell’s Kitchen. I popped in this morning to grab sundries for our weekly meeting. The small space is bright white in lovely contrast to its hellish neighbor, and there were some good lookin’ treats in the bakery case. The shop is still in soft opening, with a Grand Opening planned for Mother’s Day weekend, but the girls behind the counter were baking like mad. There’s a charming little counter with mismatched seats where you may perch and watch them doing so.

It is a real working bakery, providing all the bready goods for HK next door, but there will also be pastries, donuts, cupcakes, scones, breads, croissants, PRETZELS (!!!), tarts, cookies, and gallons of Peace Coffee to wash it down. Today I snagged a carrot cake scone (v. moist), some glazed donuts, a maple glazed twist with chunks of salty crisp bacon, a few cinnamon bun-ish little things called a gooey babies, and a rocky road brownie cupcake hybrid for my meeting (I’m kissing ass because I’m not exactly timely with deadlines).
