F3: Bright Shiny and New

You can buy these on Etsy

It’s a gloriously sunny Fresh Forkin’ Friday and we have a bright, shiny, and new website! Finally! I can’t tell you how long our IT team has been slaving over this, they’re almost bald from the hair pulling. I’ve had to deliver infusions of cake pops and liquor on unprecedented levels. Please be patient while we fine tune some of the goods, but hopefully it will prove easier for you to find the good stuff. The restaurant guide, especially, has been frozen and a bit ignored, but should now be up to date and deliciously tuned to be a great resource. You’ll again be able to search by location, cuisine, editor’s choice, price point, and more. We’ll eventually be providing some extra content that just lives on the Eat & Drink page and there are more sassy things in store.

CLOSES

Vescio’s in the skyway has closed. That’s a busy section (both neighboring Zen Box and MyBurger have jumped from the habitrail and opened successful satellites), but the red sauce always seemed burned and the pasta was kinda soggy. There are implications that an Indian resto will take its place.

OPENS/NEW

Apparently there’s a new food truck in town dishing out mac n’ cheese.  R.A. MacSammy’s is a big yellow truck that first made an appearance at the Winter Carnival with classic mac n’ cheese, build-your-own options, specialty themed dishes (Greek Freak Mac), plus pulled pork and Black Forest sammies. A good chilly weather option if you can find them.

How long has it been since you’ve done a cakewalk? Too long, my friends. On March 1st, Salty Tart’s Michelle Gayer is hosting the Minneapolis Cakewalk for Share Our Strength and it promises to be quite the hootenanny. Sun Street, Chef Shack, LBV among others are doling out the sweet stuff while the bar will be open and the music will be pumping at the Fine Line. Get your tickets soon, this will likely sell out. Listen to Michelle tomorrow on the Weekly Dish around 1 pm as she chats up the event.

And then, there’s the fish fight. The MN Zoo’s Fish Smart program is hosting a seafood battle, on Monday the 27th at Kitchen in the Market, between Jamie Malone of Sea Change and Robert Wohlfeil of Oceanaire. The two chefs get a sustainable fish, a bunch of mystery ingredients, and a load of pressure to create something awesome from a certain loud emcee who loves her some microphone time, ahem. Seriously, this sustainability program is highly respected by top local chefs and this event supports their efforts, so come on down and we’ll taste some of the goods.

Brit’s is throwing its first-ever Cask Ale Festival on the 28th. The $40 ticket will allow you to self-pour (!) cask conditioned beers from five different breweries: Surly, Fulton, Summit, New Belgium, and Crispin Cider. There will be plenty of snacks to help you along.

Today, dear burger and hotdish lovers, is the launch of the crowd surfed Uff Da blucy at Blue Door Pub.

You know what I like? The Grandma Project. Sassy writer and wordsmith Ellen Hunter Gans has a nifty idea and wants you to be a part of it. If you have a great old-school recipe that is somehow attached to a great story about someone in your life, you should submit it for inclusion in this collection. You have until the 28th, so get off your keester and ignore that hitch in your get-along (as some Granny once said somewhere). And don’t feel like you have to have an epic Nonna story, I bet Uncle Herb’s potato salad would be just fine.
