Taco Platter There is nothing easier if you have a potential feeding frenzy on your hands. Call ahead and order a platter of take-out tacos from Chino Latino with both the beef barbacoa and chicken tinga. All the limes, sour cream, pico, and queso fresco come in their own little containers so it's easy to assemble. Pork Sammies If you get a couple pounds of the pork shoulder from Brasa (slow roasted as it is with citrus, garlic, and pepper) you will be revered. They'll also do a whole big setup for you if you have more than 20 people. Here's a tip: ask for a tub of that ridiculously tasty bright green mojo sauce and dip said pork sandwich forthrightly. Ribs & Chicken There's a ton of great places you could pick this up, but Rooster's is the only one that murders it, in a good way, Memphis-syle. It's the pepper rub, it's the sauce, it's the comingling of both that deliver a snappy heat which won't obliterate flavor. When's the last time you had chicken from a bucket? Too long. Wings Consider the sauce. Go ahead and bake or fry your little hot wings, but make sure your sauce is righteous. Some people love the stuff from BWW, but I'm not a huge fan. Beyond my own recipe, which will go with me to my grave or the highest bidder, I'll slather my wings with locally made Spooky Sauce which you can find at Local D'Lish. Tip: if you're home frying, throw a little cinnamon in the flour mix. Beer Of course you can get a ton of local brews that rule, but I just heard that Newcastle is debuting a 5-liter draughtkeg in select cities, and we are one of them. Available locally at Surdyk's, the mini keg can sit next to you on your couch, pouring forth up to 10 fresh pints of Brown Ale. Dece. Advertisement « Previous | Main | Next » |
