Fine Living Will Be Cooking

Stephanie March
nightmare.jpgThe Fine Living Channel, which is owned by the peeps behind Food Network, is destined to become the Cooking Channel by mid-2010.

I guess we can expect a shuffle of programming, with some of the current FN cooking shows flipping over to the new channel so that FN can "continue its march toward growing the next generation of 'foodies' with energetic, entertainment-oriented content," .

Awesome. Keep your "energetic, entertainment-oriented content" and your Guy Fieri, and your Freaky Deen, and your boob shots of Giada, the nightmare that is Sandra Lee, and anything ever to do with Bobby Flay. Ever.

Maybe we could have a real bunch of shows on the Cooking Channel! Maybe we could have programs where someone teaches us how to cure meats and make sausage. Or what about a show that teaches you how to craft your own burrata and mozzarella. I want people to get dirty and learn how to forage for mushrooms in someone else's yard and I want to learn how to make tofu, tableside.

Is that asking too much?

Comments

I agree that it would be great to seperate the food entertainment from the cooking, but I think killing the boob shots of Giada is throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

I agree John. I mean, lets not loose our heads here.

Add the Neeley's to that list. Curing meat, making cheese, baking macaroons and canelles . . . those are the things that are on my wishlist. I look back at the old Baking with Julia series; such a beautifully done show. The promise of "energetic, entertainment-oriented content" does not bode well. Over-the-top personalities . . . very little useful content.

Ok, you can have Giada if they can figure out a way to tone down the BriteWhite on her teeth.

Especially the Neely's.
A real learning experience would be nice.
