Getting to Z

Adam Platt
The great folks at A to Z Produce & Bakery in Stockholm, Wisconsin, have some news: They are taking the winter off. Most of us know the place as "Pizza A to Z," the weekly Tuesday farmside pizza cookout in the bluff country near Lake Pepin, the only regular farm-to-stomach dining experience in our region.

November 18 will be the last day of operation this year, but judging by the weather forecast, Election Day may be the last Tuesday temperate enough to justify the drive from the metro area. They will be taking the winter off for "rest, repairs & review," and there is no announced reopening date, which adds an ominous note, but perhaps I'm reading in.

I'll be all-election all the time Tuesday, but once you've done your citizenly duty, perhaps the better course is to just let go and enjoy one of the last nice days of the fall.

Comments

With such an impressive venture, I understand why these folks need some time to rest. We can all hope (and beg and plead) that they reopen in the spring. My friends and I have a fabulous evening every time we go, and the pizza is probably one of my favorites in town(ish).
