Yes, just to set the record straight—since I have gotten a flood of e-mails about it throughout the last few days—my father-in-law, Bill Haas, is indeed the same Bill Haas running for governor of our great state. He announced two weeks ago. There is a bumper sticker on my car now that reads, “left wing Lindsay liberal Jews for Haas.” I believe it’s one-of-a-kind

Last month I let you know about a taco truck I love in LA and asked the
question, why not here? Check out this video from CNN about the taco truck being a Twitter hit. I maintain the position that here in Mpls./St
Paul, we are a perfect market for mobile food vendors of all species,
especially in this fragile economy. If the local city governments would
make it easier for entrepreneurs to open businesses such as these, it
would be a huge boon to our downtown areas and extended metro
neighborhoods. Check out this link to a NRN article on the mobile food truck craze.

Here is a great idea for a movie night adventure for everyone you know. Check out FRESH, which is showing at the Riverview Theater next Wednesday, June 3rd at 7 p.m. FRESH
features urban farmer/ activist Will Allen of Growing Power, the
recipient of a 2008 MacArthur Genius Grant, and sustainable farmer and
entrepreneur Joel Salatin of Omnivore's Dilemma fame. According to Tracy Singelton of Birchwood Cafe, “ FRESH

Ahhh. The sweet smell of freshly fried cheese curds wafting along on
the gentle breezes of an August morning. It's that time of year! I have
the first State Fair update of the season. These little treats will be
on sale at the Eco Experience booth. Nice!

I spent all of the last week on the road, so this week's post is all about life away from home. . . . I
am on planes a lot and always devour all the airline mags. The problem
is that I am always tearing pages out of them and have never found a
back-of-pocket air-zine worth taking off the plane or subscribing
to—until now. I am sure you will all accuse me of drinking the company
Kool-Aid because MSP Communications publishes it, but the new Delta Sky
magazine is AMAZING. It is loaded with the kind of info that everyone
who travels, eats, reads, or shops needs to know. Congrats to everyone,
especially Jayne Haugen Olson who runs the show at the new monthly.
Look for it next time you are airborne.

Well, I never thought I would live to see the day when Sean Penn, Javier Bardem, Benicio del Toro, Jonah Hill, Jack Black, Seth Rogen, and I would all write the same film-centric blog post, but here it is . . . . More intriguing to me was something I read in a Kate Rogers blurb in the current issue of our magazine writing about The Green Room. She wrote:

Ouch! Talk about a bad call. My Top Chef semifinalist pick,
Jamie Lauren from San Fran, got bounced last week right after I picked
her to go to the finals with Stefan. What I didn’t count on was her
taking the gas pipe in the Ripert copycat competition. That was a tough
task, but she kind of gave up on the job at hand, or was that just my
imagination?

Tonight on Travel Channel is the Maine episode of Bizarre Foods,
marking the television debut of both my son and my dad, and we all get
to eat together. Amazing. Plus, a culinary death match with dozens of
local Portland chefs, a day of lobstering with Linda Greenlaw, and, of
course, plenty of moose and beaver. I love this episode and hope you
do, too. For the record, the food at Hugo's, 555, Back Bay Grill,
Evangeline, and at Fore Street (if they opened here in our town) would
automatically make them top-ten eateries. For anyone looking for a
great food vacation, Maine, and the Portland area in particular, is an
incredible destination.
