FRESH Ideas

Here is a great idea for a movie night adventure for everyone you know. Check out FRESH, which is showing at the Riverview Theater next Wednesday, June 3rd at 7 p.m. FRESH features urban farmer/ activist Will Allen of Growing Power, the recipient of a 2008 MacArthur Genius Grant, and sustainable farmer and entrepreneur Joel Salatin of Omnivore's Dilemma fame. According to Tracy Singelton of Birchwood Cafe, “FRESH offers real-life stories of real-life local foods heroes working hard every day toward a shared vision of an American food system that is environmentally sustainable, socially just, healthy, and tastes good too!”

Ah, Summer

Beard Buzz

Has all the local Beard Buzz made you hungry? Want to be a part of the action at next year’s Beard awards? It’s the big twentieth-anniversary edition, and it is at Avery Fisher Hall on Monday, May 3, 2010. Susan Ungaro, JBS honcho, told me over lunch last week that it is not to be missed. Since I have not been able to attend the last four years because of shooting schedules for Travel Channel, I was eager to pencil it in so that I won’t miss the big show. See you there.
