Homework: Chalkboard Decor

After thinking and rethinking, I’m tackling yet another chalkboard wall at home. When we first moved into our South Minneapolis house, we painted a large, very beige basement wall in what is aptly named “Safety Orange” by Hudson Paint, a company that offers every shade you’d ever want in chalkboard paint. That wall is well loved and rarely erased, so it’s been fun to watch it get covered with characters and names. Just when I started to think the “trend” is getting post-peak, I keep seeing other ideas for chalkboard walls in kitchens, offices, and restaurants that just make so much sense. With fall and its busy season of school schedules, reminders, and lists approaching we’ve decided to do another chalkboard area, this time a transition wall between the kitchen and the laundry room. We picked traditional black along with a magnetic primer by Rust-oleum from Settergren’s Hardware so we can have a catchall for all that stuff, along with a place for the kids to scribble before dinner. Stay tuned for the result. In the meantime, here’s some chalk-happy inspiration.
