Designer Tips for Art Fair Shopping

Tomorrow kicks off the Edina Art Fair, which runs Friday, June 1, through Sunday, June, 3. We hear there’ll be more than 300 artists and an emphasis on green design, plus, of course, music, food, and stuff for the kids. Located in the thick of the 50th & France festivities, Decori Designs will be running a discount of 20 percent off all wall art in its shop during the fair. Plus, Decori’s owner and designer Suzanne Haugland has a few tips on shopping for art and how to incorporate it into the home:

  • It should be something that you love and can’t live without. Art can generate emotions, hold memories, and complete a room.
  • Bigger is usually better, but it depends on where the art is going in a room. If it’s over a sofa or table, a piece of art should be at least half the length of the piece of furniture.
  • As for framing, it’s up to the owner.  Similar frames can help unify a collection of pieces. Frames can also incorporate the other design elements of the room, which help the art complement a room.

Happy shopping!
