New Vikings Uniforms: Classic, with a Twist

Well it’s about time the Minnesota Vikings embrace what has become a wardrobe staple these past few (fashion) seasons: the colorful bottom. The team unveiled new uniforms for 2013, including purple pants. They’re bold, yet playful.

Most of the updates are subtle: modern twists on the classic, and that’s according to a team press release—I kid you not. The gold accents are brighter,…

Happy 20th, MOA

When I moved back to Minneapolis a dozen years ago to write about the shopping scene, I don’t think I fully appreciated how much time I would spend at Mall of America. Seeing new stores, interviewing celebrities, getting a pulse on consumer desires, pulling merchandise for photo shoots. When the world of print media seems shaky,…

Rennovation work, including construction of the new food court, is already underway — read all about it — so I’m thinking it’s time to reveal some new tenants to replace the many lost over the last few years. Big Modeling Contract for Kaela Humphries

Maybe now the media will quit referring to her as Kris Humphries’ sister. Kaela Humphries has signed a contract with Ford Models in New York. And to think, the plus size beauty shared a runway with me just a few weeks ago at a charity fashion show in Minneapolis…

That's JCP, Thank You

Just when it seemed there wasn’t a new idea in retail, J.C. Penney laid out an ambitious plan to overhaul its stores and brand. Some highlights:

- Fewer sales, lower prices. J.C. Penney CEO Ron Johnson confirmed what we already know: Very little department store merchandise, like 2 percent, sells at full price. So rather than go through the motions of pricing it high…

RIP, Charla Krupp

Charla Krupp–magazine editor, best selling author and champion of women making the most of their assets (and least of their flaws)–was the very first subject of the “Shopping with…” column I wrote for seven years in the St. Paul Pioneer Press. At the time, she was editing the smart, but short-lived ShopETC. magazine and was in Minneapolis…
