There’s a reason why shoppers plan their summer vacations around the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: It lives up to the hype. Nordstrom is remarkably disciplined about limiting its sales, and the Anniversary Sale is its biggest sale of the year, offering new fall merchandise on discount before it goes up to full price. Making the most of this sale requires strategy.
Early Access. The sale runs July 19 to Aug. 4, but the pre-sale starts today for Nordstrom card holders. (In the past, you could usually sneak a peek without a Nordstrom Rewards card, but they’ve clamped down on this policy, so don’t be surprised.)
Crowds. Be prepared—this sale is no secret. The first few days are intense. Things do sell out. Go early, but go with patience.
Know the Trends. One of the biggest challenges to making the most of this sale is wrapping your head around fall fashion in the middle of summer. But if you can just set the sandals aside to anticipate the boots you’ll want to wear in October, you’ll have money left over for pants to match! Leather, printed eyewear, moto boots, animal print, pops of purple, layered bracelets, and statement scarves are the looks Nordstrom is excited about for fall.
Prioritize. Nordstrom MOA store manager Alysia Wheeler says trend items tend to sell out first, but don’t overlook the basics, like the Clarisonic cleaning system, Zella activewear, lingerie, tights, and kids clothes.
Best Deals. “Shoes, shoes, and more shoes,” Wheeler says. “The designer handbags are also really fantastic deals.”
More, Online. Assortment can vary store to store. Check online for even more options. Sales associates can help you track down what you need, too (and often waive shipping fees).
