Highcroft Merch

We have many swank hotels in the Twin Cities. Every one of them boasts a bar and restaurant; a couple have spas and health clubs, but shopping has largely been overlooked. Until now. Graves 601 Hotel has made space on its fourth floor for Highcroft Merch, a jewel box of a shop featuring a high-end sprinkling of men’s dress shirts, jackets, and ties, plus gifts and jewelry by local designers. Women’s fashion is coming soon.

The mix is tailored to the hotel guest, who might have forgotten to pack a little black dress, or spilled on a tie, or need to bring a fancy candle to a dinner party. Let’s face it: despite the downtown Minneapolis address, there’s not a lot of great shopping right around the Graves.

For locals, the big news with Highcroft is its manager/buyer: the esteemed Keith Dorsett, who has fit most Minneapolis business men in a suit at one time or another—during his long tenure at Dayton’s/Marshall Field’s/Macy’s, or at his LaSalle Court specialty store Elsworth, which closed recently. Dorsett epitomizes good service and style. Now that he’s turned over the pesky details, like paying rent, he can concentrate on what he does best: discovering and delivering great product. Give it time—Dorsett is still filling the shelves—but keep an eye on Highcroft, which could easily become a shopping destination for locals—and hopefully, inspire other hipster hotels to follow suit.  601 First Ave. S., Mpls., 612-312-1120
