They had me at $5 lash application. Because no matter how many times I’m shown how to affix false eyelashes, nor how easy -peasy other more coordinated people swear they are to apply on yourself, I am hopeless. Blush Beauty Room, now open in Uptown, will get you dolled up in disposable lashes for five bucks. That, to me, is a reasonable investment for a night—or day—of fabulousness.
Of course, there’s more. Blush offers full face makeup for the reasonable price of $25; slightly more for special events and weddings. The inviting space just around the corner from Sebastian Joe’s is perfect for parties—rentals are available. The big competition these days is the blow dry bars, which also host parties, and offer makeup application as well as hair styling. So it’s smart that Blush is distinguishing itself with beauty expertise, like makeup “wardrobing”—a service where the Blush pros will edit your bag and provide product recommendations and makeup looks, for $20. (Blush does plan to partner with the salon next door, Terrace Hair, for blowouts.)
Blush owner and makeup artist Jori Tentis decided to start her own studio after nearly a decade with Bare Escentuals at Mall of America. She’s excited by the freedom to carry whatever lines she likes, but still loves her bareMinerals, which is stocked at Blush along with The Balm, and Pangea Organics, as well as an assortment of other grab and go beauty products, tools, jewelry and accessories. ”I’m trying to make it really affordable,” Tentis says. 2004 Hennepin Ave. S., Mpls., 612-871-2688
