According to the 50th & France Business Association, the property owner opted not to renew Chico’s lease. Chico’s has occupied that prime retail corner for 25 years. Insiders say the space was in need of a refresh, and the corner could use a new draw. Chico’s has eight other Twin Cities stores, including one nearby at the Galleria.
Paper Source, which has another store in Uptown, plans to open in March. It’s a good fit for 50th, which has been short on the card/gift category in recent years. It could, however, be tough competition for locally owned stationery boutique Paperista, just down the street—but then, weddings are the bread and butter for Paperista, while Paper Source serves a broader base with cards, gifts, crafts, specialty papers, and more.
