Neimans Sets Closing Date

Neiman Marcus will close its doors in Minneapolis for good on Jan. 31, 2013.

When the department store announced its plans back in July to shutter the Gaviidae Common store, the estimated closing date was “by July 2013,” which was the end of its lease. Since then, Neimans has been working to get out of the lease early, leaving employees in limbo, not sure how soon they would be out of a job. Amazingly, very few sales associates from the Minneapolis store have left—some longtime employees have vowed to be the last ones out of the store.

Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis will be fully stocked for the holidays, spokeswoman Catherine Loose says. That includes the highly anticipated Target/Neiman Marcus holiday collaboration, which hits both stores at 8 a.m. on Dec. 1.

“It will be our last Christmas as a store and we are all determined that it will be our best, showing Minneapolis that we take pride in our jobs and what we do,” Loose says.

No word yet on a closing sale, but after Christmas seems likely.
