Well, try to remember that Southdale is bringing Madewell to the Twin Cities. And the new Sephora store should be nice. The latest announcements from the Edina mall, which is in the midst of a major renovation, are aimed at bringing back young shoppers who have been dazzled by Mall of America in recent years. Journeys is opening in November; Maurices and Wet Seal plan to open at Southdale in fall 2013.
The new first level food court—er, “dining pavilion”— is filling up, and it’s going to look familiar: Qdoba Mexican Grill, Subway Cafe (think sub joint meet espresso bar), Dairy Queen, Panda Express, Teriyaki Japan and Great Steak (relocating from upstairs) will all open in November. Rojo Mexican Grill is coming to Southdale next year, taking the place of Ulta, which is moving its Edina store over to the Shops of Lyndale (next to Best Buy) just off I-494 in Richfield. Wasabi Modern Japanese Cuisine—offering traditional dishes and Latin-themed takes on classics—will replace the current Guest Services desk in center court. And now you know why my colleagues in the food department didn’t jump on this news.
Meanwhile, several Southdale stores will unveil an updated look in the coming weeks: Ann Taylor‘s redesign will be complete by the end of the month (it’s dramatic; the MOA store got the makeover earlier this year.); Things Remembered moves into its new space on Sept. 9, and Games by James follows on Oct. 20. Soma Intimates is scheduled to open at Southdale on Aug. 19. Hang tight—Sephora, Madewell and Lucky Brand will begin construction in the coming weeks with plans to open in November.
