A fifth Minnesota designer made the cut for Project Runway. Raul Osorio, a fixture on the Twin Cities fashion show circuit, has been named as a cast member for season 10 of the fashion reality show, which premieres on the Lifetime Network July 19.

Many of the most prominent Twin Cities designers in the MNFashion scene — Osorio included — have faces challenges taking their fashion beyond the runway locally– due, in large part, to the financial barriers to manufacturing. Yet, their talent continues to be noted by Project Runway producers.

MN alums of the show have had some success in the fashion world: Ra’mon-Lawrence Coleman, a former Target designer who now lives in New York, was recently hired to oversee Nanette Lepore’s collaboration with JC Penney, due out early next year. Christopher Straub, who lives in Shakopee and appears regularly at local events, is designing a collection for Maurices, and continues to develop his own line. Danielle Everine, who left Target to compete on Project Runway last season, is working on her own collection locally and selling at Cliche in Minneapolis. Our first Project Runway contestant, Katherine Gerdes, traded sewing machine for spatula, and is now a pastry chef at new downtown bakery Angel Food.

In his Project Runway audition interviews, Osorio, 27, described his style as “a little bit Midwestern; a little bit rock and roll.” Here’s hoping he rocks season 10 and amplifies Minnesota’s star on the fashion map.
