You can’t keep a born retailer out of the stores. Just a couple of months after closing her longtime 50th & France boutique, Spirit, owner Marilyn Goodman has popped up at Guild. “I told everybody I would probably reappear,” says Goodman, who has been in retail for 40 years. “I went skiing in France, I went to California…and then I felt the bug.”
She had already placed spring orders for Spirit, so rather than cancel, Goodman brought them to Guild. Her mini-shop within this eclectic collaborative of designers and dealers features the latest looks from Spirit’s top lines like Pete & Greta cargos, Sold denim and Spirit’s signature California-influenced embroidered dresses and glam tees. The partnership gives Guild a refreshing injection of modern style, and brings in new customers, who are discovering the vintage clothes, furnishings and artisan made jewelry and decor.
It’s full circle for Goodman, who had a store called Cheap Thrills in Uptown back in the ‘70s that mixed vintage and new (it’s totally cool to admit you remember it). Expect Spirit to become a lasting fixture at Guild—fall orders have already been placed! 4414 Excelsior Blvd., St. Louis Park, 952-378-1815
