Highlights from the red carpet at last night’s Academy Awards…
Now here’s an inspiring superhero. I loved everything about Gwyneth Paltrow’s sleek white Tom Ford dress and surprising, moment-making floor-length cape on the red carpet at the Academy Awards. Simple. Elegant. Cool. (Note the equally simple-sleek jewelry: diamond cuff and one big ring. That’s it.)
Tina Fey said it best last night to Tim Gunn: “At first I feared the peplum. Now I love the peplum!” Red carpet darling Michelle Williams doesn’t seem the type to fear a trend, and she pulled this one off joyfully. Yes, there is a lot going on on this Louis Vuitton gown, but the coral color is so refreshing, it fits her so well (take note, Rooney Mara), the bow brooch at the waist is subtle and cool, and even her lipstick is just perfect.
This is how to dress when you have curves. This Tadashi Shoji dress was perfection on Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer. Flattering in all the right places. It’s too bad Melissa McCarthy didn’t get dressed with her.
Am I the only one seeing Rorschach test all over Jessica Chastain’s Alexander McQueen gown? I know I was supposed to love it — more raves than pans from the pros — but I didn’t.
Oh, Natalie Portman. I do understand why you are numbers 1-5 on my husband’s free pass list. So lovely.
Other assorted thoughts and tweets:
Angelina Jolie: Don’t be a slave to the slit. The dress was pretty, but the posing was ridiculous.
Kristin Wiig: You’re so pretty. Try a color that does not fade into the woodwork.
Emma Stone: Bows bigger than your head are never a great idea.
