Dresses that could have made a memorable walk down the aisle were part of a bridal misstep at Priscilla of Boston last week. In the wake of closing its Edina location, the bridal boutique destroyed dozens of unsold bridal gowns by spray-painting and trashing existing inventory. The decision seems more insensitive than professional during a time when countless women struggle to afford such luxuries. Donating the dresses to Operation Glass Slipper, a nonprofit organization that provides complimentary prom attire to young women in financially restrictive situations, is just one favorable alternative the company could have considered.
Although dozens of damaged Priscilla of Boston dresses will never find a home, Operation Glass Slipper is making sure that isn’t the case for other bridal apparel. The organization is hosting a wedding dress sale Jan. 13-15 at the Park Crossing Shopping Center to raise money for events such as their Princess Event this March. The annual spring event hosted at the Mall of America outfits thousands of deserving girls with prom apparel and accessories for their special night. The organization welcomes any donations of money, attire, and time. www.operationglassslipper.org
